Lee Hyun-Ju

Abstract
Objectives: This study was performed to compare body mass index (BMI) of enlisted soldiers who are serving for the military as a mandatory service before and after joining in the military service.
Methods: Data were collected by self-evaluation questionnaire from 301 respondents, and their BMI indices from Military Entrance Physical Exam (MEPE) database. Paired T-test and regression analysis were used for statistical analysis.
Results: Average BMI has been reduced from 23.6 to 23.0 §¸/§³. There were statistically significant changes of BMI after joining in the military service in the group which were dispatched at the labor intensive group. The group had worked over 40 hours per week, more weight control activities or relatively low MEPE results.
Conclusions: The reduction of current BMI of soldiers was achieved statistically significantly after joining in the military service.
